Headline Grab: IVF, Fertility Drugs Might Boost Autism Risk - Two studies show a link, but experts say risk to any one child remains low
The first of two recent studies found "children whose mothers took fertility" medications "were almost twice as likely to have autism as other children." In a study of 111 women, researchers found that "women with infertility and who used ovulation" medications "had a twofold greater chance of having a child with an autism spectrum disorder." A second study found that "being conceived by in vitro fertilization (IVF) or born prematurely...seemed to up the risk of autism." In that study, researchers found that "about 10.2 percent of 461 children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder were conceived using IVF."
