Psychotherapy

My style as a therapist is thoughtful, warm and engaging. I help create a comfortable, interactive and trusting relationship where troubling and sensitive issues can be safely explored and understood together. I focus on your strengths and resources and offer feedback on how to work to improve the aspects of your life you are seeking to change or manage more successfully.

What Problems Do I Treat?
I have a general psychotherapy practice and have successfully helped people grappling with a wide spectrum of issues such as:
  • Depression, loneliness and loss
  • Anxiety, worry and stress
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Obsessiveness and compulsiveness
  • Interpersonal conflicts and anger
  • Intimacy and relationship problems
  • Career-related frustrations and concerns
  • Life transitions such as marriage, whether to have children, parenting, mid-life issues, etc.
  • Pregnancy and postpartum issues, pregnancy loss
  • Infertility, third-party family building and adoption
Why Therapy?
People tend to try everything that they can to solve their difficulties on their own before calling a therapist. When someone is stuck, it’s often because something is getting in their way internally that they either don’t realize or can’t seem to change. I help people make greater contact with themselves to untangle and make visible what may not be readily apparent to them and yet is interfering with their happiness or success. Therapy can be an extremely profound and rewarding pursuit, offering the possibility of lasting changes in the most important areas of you life – your behavior, relationships, and sense of self.

Phone Consultation
If you wish, I can speak initially with you by phone at no cost to help assess your situation and determine whether it would make sense for us to meet for a consultation. If it doesn’t make sense for us to meet, I can provide you with more appropriate referrals. If you have questions or would like to set up an initial phone consultation or appointment, please contact me by phone at 415-771-5671 or email at reneespencer@mac.com.
